Personally, I disagree because so far, any and all magic that alters marks has been fairly consistent. If you lose it, you lose your powers. If you gain someone else's, you get theirs instead.
Considering how Starlight is the expert with this sort of magic and we as an audience have little information as to how magic works in the show, I give the benefit of the doubt to the person who has the greater knowledge and experience.
