I’ve toyed with the idea that in Equestria death sentences are only given in very particular circumstances, like if the pony is convicted and requests it as a means to quiet their guilty conscience. But this could have some odd situations arise. Ideally, really, she could just wipe their memories and then age-regress them to a foal, so to both simultaneously give their core being a second chance, while erasing from existence the part of them that committed a heinous offense. You couldn’t let ponies know you did this, however, otherwise they might even seek it out as a form of judicial suicide, and feel like they’re getting away with it.
