We have three elements of music, an element of sweets, an element of alcohol, and an element of bubbles. Nightmare Moon was not meant to be defeated by these elements- she was mean to be welcomed and befriended by them. A large nighttime rave party with friendly ponies would have shown her that ponies already appreciated the night, and may have lightened her bitter heart.
 
That and/or Nightmare Moon would have gotten laid, which, after a thousand years of solitude, probably would have helped, too.
