Thanks dude. I agree with the jacket/hair bit; my original drawing had her with dark hair so it didn’t clash so much, but I didn’t upload it here because I wanted it to be easy to tell who she was at a glance.
I think everything I draw somehow pisses off Bronies. Whoops.
(that being said, if I’m ruining a racist’s day, I’m not going to complain)
Thanks everyone for the positivity!

I honestly think you may have accidentally hit a perfect storm of what Bronies tend not to like.

She’s pretty chubby, the art style is a little different, and the racists will seethe that she’s not white or the series’ skin tone.

That last one in particular is an aspect of the community I detest, but it’s kind of within their rights. Even if it’s hateful.

That said, you did some things quite well, you are obviously trying and steadily improving, and you have a pretty good grasp of colour theory, though I think the red of her jacket clashes a bit with her hair.

Keep trying, keep improving. I think you’ll go pretty far. :)

Hey, artist here! I headcanon Sunset Shimmer as Mexican and usually draw her with darker skin, but in the case of the AU I didn’t think to make her skin darker. I realize now that it was probably some kind of preconception I have being white - thinking that having darker skin meant she wouldn’t be popular. I think I’ll go back to the skin color I used before.
That being said, her skin looks lighter with the red and yellow hair.

Hello! And yes! I am just as surprised as you are! But the fact that the artist just recently uploaded a version with Equestria colorization, and that it’s seemingly on its way to do much better than this piece is kinda telling in my opinion.

I’m all for free speech so it’s well within everyone’s right to downvote something if it doesn’t fit their headcanon, I just think that’s a trivial way to go about things and not really helpful to any artists who are trying to do their own thing. On the flipside, it’s also everyone’s right to call out this sort of behaviour if they see it so…

…She’s still vaguely white/mostly European/possibly Hispanic looking. (Not to try to force a label onto the art. Artist’s dictates pic, yo.)

But wow, seriously?

CLEARLY, the problem is that it isn’t Equestria girls colorization or lily-white skin, so the only appropriate response is to act like an entitled, potentially closet-racist ninny, and leave a downvote as the picture has trampled on sacred head-canons.

I’ll grant that some of the downvotes may be legit, however. I can see this style not being everyone’s cup of tea. Though I doubt that’s the reason this is in the negatives.
