They were explicitly referred to as “movies” in the comic though.

Yea, and I didn’t cap one page that shows that there’s a narrator for all these scenes when shown off to the side. They are definitely doing “magic lantern shows”, not motion pictures.
If the last page of the extended preview is any indication, these could be very similar. It looked like the actors were holding a still pose (and the director shouted “INaction!”).

This seems to go a step further, with the implication of film/movie cameras and possibly the existence of televisions; despite this, Twilight still used a magic spell to rat out Svengallop instead of a camera and a television.
These were magic lantern shows, stills projected while a narrator read off a script.
