…That would be quite the turnaround, going from “I’ll pillage and burn Equestria to the ground,” and being someone who Spike and Twilight believes would try to murder Starlight for the hell of it (Spike only questioned Starlight not doing something like teleporting out in that fantasy, when he was involved), to “the sensitive brother.” I’ll repeat that: Twilight believes he would murder someone for kicks, and Spike doesn’t call her crazy for that part.

My prediction is that he used to be sensitive back when he lived with Smolder, but since he moved out, he’s become a jerk. I bet that he’ll be redeemed at the end.

Since Smolder apparently witnessed her brother going through the molt, isn’t it more likely that her brother is younger than her? Cause Garble is clearly older.

This just makes me want to ship these two more. ’Cause f**k Garble.

That would explain why Smolder got caught holding the bag as “the one who has to go study friendship with ponies.” She or someone in her family had to do something get Ember to order her to do this.

Having a newer character be related to an established one would simultaneously flesh out two characters backstories and show different sides to those characters you’d only see in family interactions, to say nothing of the unique character interactions and storylines that could follow.
 
That said, if her brother is some as of yet unintroduced character, throwing Garble into the mix to see how he interacts with him and Smolder has good storyline potential too. e.g, He’s bigger and tougher and older than Garble and may have influenced Garble the same way Garble tried to with Spike, the key difference being Garble’s choice to give into the peer pressure that Spike rejected. Maybe Smolder serves as a good influence that gives Garble the chance to make a better choice, or avoiding potential redemption storyline, at least stand up to him and earn respect he wasn’t getting before that, making him more sympathetic to us.

Since there’s no information given about dragon parenting in Equestria, any of the adults we’ve seen in the show could be the parents of any of the adolescents we’ve seen. And, I suppose that’d go for the hatchlings as well.
