Probably because, as Ember demonstrated, dragon flames can be hot enough to disintegrate rock if they so wish. Dragons might be resistant to lava and normal fire, but their dragon flame could be on a whole other level, and potentially dangerous to them.

I simply get the impression that female dragons are usually active and aggressive. Not sure they have tomboys, since that would imply passive female dragons.
Would you want to be hit by fire even if you were fireproof?
