For me, it’s calling out the bad individuals that give the rest of the group a bad name. I would have put all feminists as radical if I hadn’t met the more egalitarian types.

Erin Pizzey; a Feminist from the 70’s who tried to open a shelter for men and boys due to feminism already becoming what we see far more prevalent today and tossing them out to either go back to their abuse or live on the cold streets received death threats and what people like the fore mention cry about getting, but rarely ever show for doing what they said they were all about.  
Known feminists who’s views are taught in collage classes believe men were subhuman, that anything a women did was justified because he wasn’t born the right way.
 
Really, feminism is a cult. It demands you follow strict ways of being while the higher ups, the leaders, the saints don’t.

I think if anyone knows of people like Anita Sarkessian and Brianna Wu, they’ll know why feminism gets a bad name.

Feminism has become quite the ugly word in recent years. The rampant hatred, bail, bigotry, narcissism and lack of empathy by prominent feminists of today is why. Most tend to just cover their years to it, but that’s only furthered the screeching loons as no one they didn’t want to bother and any statement against them was seen as against women as a whole as they tend to use them as shields.
 
 
You have groups pushing a drug (addyi) that can make women pass out just for the “equality”  
As stated earlier their lack of empathy for anyone other then them has been on full display the “Get use to it” type  
The liars that will make anything an “oppression” and becoming “damsels” just to rack in money of people.  
Then you have the “Proud males” I don’t think I need to go into much detail about them, but yeah. Calling everyone who disagreed with them what they were the whole time, perhaps to absolved themselves of their “sins” or to be protected from them.  
The nigh intolerable and intolerant mobs that show up in mass to shame and attack anyone that dears have a thought outside their near dogmatic like ideals.
 
There is a good series called “why do people hate feminism” it’s pretty in depth as to why so many are tired of this word. I just went over a few.
