Nickname(s): Opal, Rora Species/Gender: Pegasus/Female Mark/Talent: An orange-red aurora, due to how she associates them with dance-like movements. Represents her talent of dancing.
Personality: Often angry, stubborn, quiet. But also seemingly carefree, sarcastic and flirty when around people who doesn’t know who she is. A bit of a brat. Important relationships:
Cadence (Mother) - Used to be very close when Aurora was small, but grew apart when her little brother was born. They are still on good terms, they just don’t spend much time together.
Shining Armor (Father) - He tries his best to understand her and take part in her interests. But Aurora is a bit of a brat, and usually just find him embarrassing.
Flurry Heart (Oldest sister) - Close, as Flurry Heart is very protective of Aurora. They don’t have many interests in common, but Flurry really tries to get involved and understand Aurora’s hobbies and such anyway. They often go flying together.
Luminous Spirit (Oldest brother) - Luminus was actually a bit of a bully when they were little. He was just a child and he has really changed since then, but it still hurt and Aurora hasn’t really forgiven him.
Felicity (Older sibling) - They’re the one Aurora most often seeks side from that.
Rapture (Older Brother) - Not close, but care about each other, even if just because they are siblings. They simply don’t spend time together.
Faerie Sky (Younger Brother) - Hurt him and she will end you.
History:
Shining and Cadence wasn’t planning on having another child; four was more than enough, thank you very much. But alicorn physiology works in mysterious ways (and the equestrian version of birth-control pills aren’t 100% fool-proof) and so their fifth child was born, and they name her Fire Opal. Because her name looks like fire, and they live in the Crystal Empire = perfect name. (They were atually planning on naming her something to do with light or the sun, since so far their kids have had pretty light coats, but then she ruined that and they had to come up with something quickly.)
For a while, Fire Opal was the baby of the family; her parents would let her get away with almost anything, during sibling fights they would take her side, and all she had to do to get extra sweets was pout. She was, quite frankly, a spoiled brat. Luminous, who is four years older than her, felt (rightfully) a bit jealous and slighted by his parents, and started to resent her for it. As she grew older, her parents toned down the blatant favouritism, since they started to realise that they needed to do some actual parenting with her. At this point, Luminous started to tease and pick her as well; he was upset over her getting so much attention, and how many times she’s gotten him in trouble when they’d had fights and only he was punished. Now, he was an upset child, who didn’t really understand that Opal also was an even younger child who didn’t know any better. But it still hurt Opal, especially since her parents seemed to suddenly grow a lot sterner with her. Flurry didn’t have as much time since she had started to study being a princess, and the twins only really spent time with each other. So she felt pretty angry with the world as well.
When she started school, she was already feeling like an outsider, so she had a hard time making friends and fitting in. It didn’t help that most foals were intimidated by her, thinking how powerful her parents were and how angry she often got. So she spent a lot of time alone, aside from a few who wanted to befriend a princess. Said princess got mad at them, and distanced herself even more.
She got her mark after her parents har her join several after school classes in fencing, art, choir etc. in an attempt by her parents to get her to socialize more. She got her mark after joining a dance class; she was pracising by herself in the evening, having a bit of trouble with the steps. Suddenly, an aurora appeared outside the window (not at all uncommon in the empire), and she was inspired to try and just let her body move instead of focusing so much on doing every step perfectly. And since her talent or mark had nothing to do with opals, she changed her name to Fire Aurora.
As she grew, she got really insecure about being the only pony without unicorn-magic in her family, and used to get really, intensly angry as a teenager when some of her classmates would make …crude comments behind her back about her parentage. Enough so, that she would get into trouble by sometimes starting physical fights, which would then fuel rumors about her, and cycle into a downward spiral.
She mellowed out a lot when Fearie Sky was born; she didn’t want her little brother to be affected by her reputation, so she learned how to just let things roll of her back and not show any reaction. Which is good since the press often has field days digging up stories of het teenage years. She still feels like her family doesn’t trust her to manage her emotions though, which is another reason for her general displeasure with the world.
Trivia:
Takes lessons in ballet, but much prefers more ““modern”” dance-styles, such as hiphop, disco, breakdancing etc. She’d never tell anyone but she’s also a bit interested in exotic dancing.
Sometimes sneaks out of the castle with the help of Disco whenever he’s visiting the Empire, to visit clubs together in disguise. She’s not actually sure how he does it, he always manages to slip by them just when they’re paying attention to something else.
Actually really likes to play and flirt, but usually doesn’t, because she has to maintain her image as a princess. So she likes to indulge when she’s in disguise, and flirts with anything that talks.
She’s only ever been to the capital of the Crystal Empire, Canterlot and Ponyville; she’d really like to travel and explore, but isn’t sure how to actually convince her parents to let her/get the money to do it without their permission.
Actually wishes she was a unicorn; magic just seems very useful, and everyone else in her family has it. (It isn’t helped that she isn’t free to spread her wings and fly as much as she wishes) But she’d never in a million years actually say that, since she feels like she can’t complain -she at least has her wings, and her cousin Moonstone doesn’t even have that.
