Twilight got an episode developing her abilities and even RD said “aww yeah, a new flying buddy!”
 
But what did Spike get?
 
Anything from Twilight? Yeah, it was “stop riding me, you have wings now”. Anything from Rarity? She didn’t even notice or care like the writers. So who has had anything positive to say about Spike’s wings? Zecora.
 
She showed more compassion for Spike than anyone and was the only one to compliment him on his wings.
 
Next episode? Aside from getting in the way of the projector once (to remind the audience “hey look we’re paying attention to spike!”), again, he’s dropped.

Which was the exact reason I didn’t want him getting wings in the first place and would have rather had him grow a new skin pattern, size up to a teen dragon and have it stick, or any number of other aspects that would make the writers have to put some effort into him.
 
Instead they went with a change that means nothing and can easily be hidden. He didn’t even keep the somewhat cool scale pattern from the stone scales.  

 
Yeah, winged spike fans, just like you said; “It doesn’t matter”. It’s a change that “changes nothing”. Congrats on giving the writers a way to write spike’s development out.

That’s implying the writers care about Spike enough to use his wings for anything than gags. RD at least complimented Twilight on “having a new flying buddy” and she had an episode showing her getting used to them.
 
Sure, Spike had to suffer “trial by fire”, so he skipped most of the awkward aspects, but as with everyone but Zecora, they just ignore it. Zecora was the only one to compliment him, everyone else quite literally ignored his development.

Spike is the orphan (unlike Scootaloo) who was left out in the middle of a lake to get sick (ON PURPOSE) by his alleged friends. This happened after he was forcefully awoken before sunrise, spent the entire day being dragged around, then spent the entire evening and night working. No, frack Scoots for being a selfish crybaby.
