No difference. Imagine Spike be in love with Twilight. And she treats him like a little brother. And loyal assistant… Will it be any less hurtful?
What I’m trying to say is that you may have unrequited feelings for both manipulative person and non-manipulative, kind and nice one. Former is just more stereotypic.
