A moment of Comfort

Detective Shimmer never liked this part of the job. But it was part of her case. She needed every scrap of information to find the perpetrator. And she promised herself that she would succeed in bringing the person that did this to justice.

Even if Dash and AJ had offered to do this for her. This was something she needed to do.

She entered the room meeting the dark-haired doctor that had examined the victim. The low light from her computer was reflected in her glasses and the young doctor was so into her work she didn’t even notice the detective.

Even if Sundet enjoyed the vision before her she knew she needed to snap her out of it.

“Ahem.”

“Oh, Detective Shimmer.” Twilight answered trying to sound professional and neutral but there was a blush spreading across her face.

“Any results from the autopsy Twi?”

“The result shows that the subject was shot within medium to close reign with 9 millimetre rounds.” Twilight said getting back into her professional character.

“How many times?”

“It is hard to determent, some holes seems to almost overlap. So I am unsure just how many rounds where fired. But at least six rounds.”

“Someone wanted this guy dead. It is quite obvious they were in for the kill.”

“Yes, one did his aorta. Seeing these injuries they wanted him to bleed to death.”

“Show me.” Sunset said as Twilight pulled the sheets to reveal the man. The injuries where easy to spot almost all of them located near the heart. Sunset felt sick to her stomach. She hadn’t had a chance to see the body when she arrived at the crime scene but she had gotten a look on the driver’s license found alongside the body, which identified the victim.

‘It’s not him.’ She kept chanting in her head as her eyes trailed over the deceased. Twilight kept talking about the information that she managed to gather from the autopsy, even if Sunset listened to what doctor Sparkle, she was still battling the unsettling feelings inside.

‘It’s not him, It’s not him, it’s not HIM.’ She kept chanting but still felt how her eyes got blurry and hew knees shaky.

“Sunset!” Twi shouted as the young woman collapsed on the floor. Quickly covering the body again and making her way around the table, getting down and then twisting Sunset so her back was to the examination table. Sunsets blue eyes where hollow almost as if she was no longer in her body.

“Sunset what is wrong?” Feeling Twilights cool skin against hers made her come back. Then involuntarily Sunset felt her eyes well up. She really did mess it up, all because she couldn’t keep her personal fear and her mind from running away and create that horrid thought.

“He looks like Sunny.” She confesses. At that Twilight realised what had caused this extreme reaction from the young detective. Stroking the overflowing tears away from the redhead’s cheek, she waited until sunset lifted her head and looked at her with blue tear-filled eyes.

It was no secret that Sunset had a soft spot for her younger cousin Sunburst, she worried about the young man still trying to help him in any way she could.

The man on the table shared similarly unruly red mop of hair and beard. Along with different pigmentations in the skin both on his hands and face.

“It’s not him.” Twilight confirmed what Sunset already knew.

“I know, but he might be someone else’s Sunny.” Her tears coming back much faster. Twi didn’t hesitate this time. She wrapped her arms around her college and crush, letting her cry out the thoughts that she had been building up.

Once Sunset was calm again. Twi made her look at her, Sunset could never stop marvelling about those deep eyes that never stopped marvelling and searching for answers to the world’s problems. Along with that beautiful that matched those eyes.

“You’ll find out who did this. I know you will.” Se encouraged. Nothing but confidence coming from the once shy and reclusive Doctor that Sunset met years ago.

“You are one of the good ones Twi.” Sunset said as she regained her smile.

“What do you say we get something to eat once our shifts are done?” She suggested knowing fully well just how bad they were when it came to make time for meals, especially when they had a new case on their hands.

“I’d love to.”

“It’s a date then.” Sunset said before kissing her cheek, causing Twilight to blush. Leaving the room knowing that someone was counting on her to make things right. Confidence was once again back in her step.

Also the idea that Sunset and Sunburst are related is something i have found online, but there is no confirmation in the show that is the case. (as far as i know)
