I need to tell HER
if it helps, nobody’s intentionally brainwashing anyone into being ponies, they’re just transforming by accident. nobody’s sure what’s causing the magic levels to increase, that was why the science guy was hired to create celestia. and he’s building ponies out of protoplasmic goo and microwaves and stuff, not former human beings. it’s still a little bit tragic, but the worst crime committed here is just ordinary greed and stupidity.
Maybe you’re taking this all a bit too…seriously? It’s a comic, specifically one that the author stated at the start was an attempt to explain a shift from human to pony society without violence and bloodshed. Nothing about it being a peaceful change in there, just no violent wars.
I don’t recall anything in the comic so far to suggest anyone is being brainwashed - the only people we’ve seen turn into ponies (and back again) are shown to be fully aware that they were human but suddenly (and temporarily) aren’t. My guess is that when the Ponification Event does eventually happen (in the comic or after it), there will be a lot of newly-turned ponies freaking out all over the place.
Between not knowing how to pone, and not being able to manipulate the still-available human technology, will lead pretty quickly to the breakdown in human society mentioned in the Pre-ponyazoic Period.
Plus, next time one wants to end human civilization. Try not to literally sugar coat it as being anything better. Unless your gonna brainwash and reprogram magically the minds of every person turned pony on Earth.
I could imagine what the few survivors on the ISS in orbit would be thinking as these genocidal maniacs wipe out the whole human population nonchalantly, while replacing them with reprogrammed drones for their “utopian” nut house of a world.
Maybe do some COD Ghosts type thing where they go with a “scorched Earth” policy on the world with the nuclear arsenals of the planet.

Yeah, THAT is an end of the world scenario!! Mankind does not have to be dead in order to consider it an end of the world scenario. Even if they are all turned to ponies, I doubt that any of them won’t know dick about what or how to operate their own bodies. Nevermind that everything that mankind has built, created and striven for gets decked by a bitch who’s her fathers own experiment. All the while taking care of creatures which according to his own statements, are the cause of magic leaks into the world to begin with. Matter of fact how the hell was this nut job able to escape and remain undetected for this long with all the shit he does on a seemingly daily basis?
Again, Where the hell is the SCP? They need to tag, bag, and drag these lunatics to a facility far from here, and also dispose of this world ending crap here. The foundation should also go after the company this guy worked for. How the heck they kept their stuff secret for so long I do not know.

Yes, but it’s not exactly a horrifying apocalypse in which all of the humans die out or are killed by the ponies - they BECOME the ponies.
I hope that the timeline of events in the comic actually gets up to showing The Ponification Event. That will be a sight to behold.
(And presumably, in a near-identical alternate reality, the event merely causes all kinds of weird skin colours to appear, thus creating the EqG reality?)
I hope the comic’s timeline reaches at least that far, even if it never goes on into the Pre-Ponyazoic/Era of The Three Tribes periods… :)
||the bad news is yellowstone’s getting ready to blow again. ||
“well, the bad news is they blew up a supervolcano worth of nukes and now we’re sinking into an endless ice age. the good news is as long as we believe hard enough that everything will be warm and sunny, it will! so uh… make happy friendships, because if you don’t, we’ll all get buried in glacial ice.”
Oh, so THAT’S what he meant. My bad.
I believe the author said it wasn’t going to be a Planet of the Apes story.
Instead of humanity destroying itself in a great war and ponies becoming the dominant species, here the humans turn into ponies.
Even if the half-life of these is of thousands or billions of years, there’s the issue of supercritical mass. Bombs are prompted, but reactors and wastes suffer delayed reactions because even the remains are unstable and generate neutrons over time, which can cause chain reactions if not checked regularly. The meltdown would leave whatever leftovers out there very unsuitable to make any thermonuclear bomb strong enought to cause the wildfires needed for a nuclear winter, but the radiation will be pretty high.
The Twilight era
The events of the giant Twilight comic
No, not really. Uranium-235 has a half-life of 700 million years, and plutonium-239 a half-life of 24 000 years, so neither are likely to decay particularly significantly in any reasonable period of time (well…by the time of the Era of Friendship plutonium bombs will probably have noticeably degraded cores). Nuclear reactors are likely to have issues unless properly shut down, nuclear waste is going to be an issue regardless due to the storage in water pools that require constant attention, but the raw nuclear material in bombs (and reactors, for that matter) would be essentially unaffected by time.
The main difficulty would be the fact that nuclear bombs are highly delicate constructions that require a lot of moving parts to work properly together, and must be maintained on a regular basis to function. Look at the difficulty that the United States has had with FOGBANK and you can begin to appreciate some of the challenges that would face anyone trying to use nuclear weapons after years or decades of abandonment in silos and bunkers.
The half-lives of the material doesn’t really matter in this. Unstable (aka, highly explosive) isotopes would go off months or years after the ponification. Chernobyl would happen pretty much everywhere, leaving nothing behind except nuclear waste that slowly decays but cannot be made into a bomb.
A more plausible explanation could be many volcanos erupting more or less at the same time, and wendigos been attracted by the massive winter the fumes and ashes would cause (Unlike nuclear winter, volcanic winter happened). The confused tribal ponies would think the wendigos make the winter, rather than the other way round.
You do realize that most nuclear material has half-lives measured in centuries, right? Depending on how long between the pre-pony era and three tribes era there was, that stuff could have easily lasted the wait til the windigos found it. It wouldn’t matter what condition the plants were in anyway since they were doing things magically, they’d just need the fuel.
