I don’t recall my grandparents giving much attention to things back in Slovenia when I was younger but I think they had more of a practical view since they had to raise a family here.
They still take the occasional vacation there and since I bought them an internetradio for christmas last year they’ve been listening to Slovenian radiostations almost non-stop.
Up to her death, my grandma never really showed interest in anything cultural, political, religious, etc. regarding her home country. I guess it wasn’t too bad seeing how she (Orthodox Christian) was okay with my dad marrying a Protestant.
My granny is kinda like that, actually. She also had to learn the local language when she married and followed my grandpa and while she’s perfectly fluent in the local language she still acts embarrassed about it.
She’ll speak slovenian at home, to my grandpa or me or my mom, but when she goes out she barely uses it. I think it has more to do with a desire to properly fit in.
Still, it’s nice to talk to my grandparents like that. It’s a nice language overall. Just difficult to learn.

I wish I knew some language stuff from my Slovak side, but nothing really was brought up.
Can’t speak for anyone else that reads this page, though. XD
I’ll admit, I’ve had a little help with that. My grandparents on my mother’s side are Slovenian and I’ve picked up a bit from them.
