They say they want to protect the ‘future’ and it’s just a nice way of saying they plan to edit the history in such a way it suits their vision of Equestria.
(Originally it was much longer dialogue, now moved to the short follow up.)
The last page was the Dragon saying that the original owner of both Crystal Heart and Spike’s egg was his mother, and suddenly we jump to Celestia telling Luna that, to protect [something •], they have to alter the records and conceal what really happened.
