Wow, I didn’t realize it went as far back as early season one! That’s pretty conclusive.
@Background Pony #6273
There’s also been at least one instance of ““Thank Celestia
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkPrwXab13c
Not the only time~
There’s no proof ponies don’t think that. Some ponies definitely fear her. Many won’t even speak ill of her even behind her back and others won’t even speak out of turn/interrupt her. Sure, some newspapers pick her apart. Doesn’t mean she doesn’t have worshipers.
@Manely_McDragonpuncher
She’s an immortal at least to age, living thousands of years. She’s at least a demigod. If you don’t think she has worshipers you’re being willfully ignorant.
Could you imagine if we had a human who lived thousands of years? Humans have worshiped less.
Try not to speak with such certainty and authority on the matter when you have no solid proof proving your interpretation because I’ll just easily twist and turn it on itself like I just did~
1 That’s not the only instance of them using her name in place of the word god.
2 She has literally damned people to Tartarus.
“for Celestia’s sake”, “for the love of Celestia”, and “Celestia knows where” are all also phrases that have been uttered in the show. Your argument is tiresome.
Whooooah death
Won’t you spare me over ‘til a another year?
Well what is this that I cant see
With ice cold hands taking hold of me
Well I am death none can excel
I’ll open the door to heaven or hell
Whoa death someone would pray
Could you wait to call me another day
The children prayed the preacher preached
Time and mercy is out of your reach
I’ll fix your feet so you can’t walk
I’ll lock your jaw so you can’t talk
I’ll close your eyes so you cant see
This very hour come and go with me
Death I come to take the soul
Leave the body and leave it cold
To drop the flesh up off the frame
Dirt and worm both have a claim
Ooh death
Whooooah death
Won’t you spare me over ‘til a another year?
My mother came to my bed
Placed a cold towel up on my head
My head is warm my feet are cold
Death is moving upon my soul
Oh death how you treating me
You closed my eyes so I can’t see
Well you hurting my body you make cold
You run my life right out of my soul
Oh death please consider my age
Please don’t take me at this stage
My wealth is all at your command
If you will move your icy hands
Oh the young, the rich, or poor
How will like me no (?)
No wealth no land no silver or gold
Nothing satisfies me but your soul
Ooh death
Whooooah death
Won’t you spare me over ‘til a another year?
Won’t you spare me over ‘til a another year?
Won’t you spare me over ‘til a another year?
Well for one, ponies don’t worship Celestia as a deity. She’s a ruler, and a celebrity, but little says they actually worship her the way humans worship gods. The fact that there is tabloid gossip about her is proof of that. The only time this line of reasoning has been used is when Rarity said “As Celestia as my witness”, a phrase that usually includes “God” in place of Celestia. But even then, Rarity is asking Celestia for guidance. There’s no proof ponies think Celestia damns people for misdeeds.
Second of all, there’s so many other phrases you could use there that sound less awkward. Just say “damned lake” or “cursed” or “dag-nabbed” or something. There’s no need to cram a canon-related pun into every line. That’s something even the writers of the show understand, because you don’t want to risk a simple line becoming incomprehensible for no reason other than pedantic fanwanking.
In what regards? It’s not like Celestia-damned is some downplay censorship (fuckin’ -> frickin’) it’s just some running gag where humans believe in god so say god-damned and ponies replace god with the deity they believe in.
Unless you just think it’s just out of place compared to the other swear where I can sort of see where you’re coming from.
