Well, for starters, the joke was presented in the manner of “these real people are dumb and evil, laugh at there awful stupidity”. The kind of thing that’s common among political cartoons. So even if it didn’t reflect your actual point of view, it was still in poor taste.
 
Then you acted like you didn’t really mean to get in anyone’s case, but instead of not getting in anyone’s case, you were condescending and directly insulting. Your first post might have been a joke, but that was far from the end of it.
 
I’ll admit that I overreacted because I’m also getting tired of the whole “being offended is EVIL!” business, but you didn’t handle it very well either.
