I suspect the reason for this is because the ponies that could help them the best, Twilight and Glimmer, were already on the case when it started to happen. So there was no need to call them because they already knew about it.
If the map is associated with Star Swirl, by virtue of being an offshoot of the Tree of Harmony… why did Star Swirl and the other Pillars go to Limbo? Because they failed a friendship problem within their group.
Maybe it sort of inherited this problem by virtue (vice?) of being related to Star Swirl in some roundabout way, if perhaps in a less extreme manner.
Maybe it’s like radar, it doesn’t detect its source? Or maybe the map figured it’d be too easy. The map might be intelligent, and have a bit of Trollestia in it.
I dunno, that’s all I can think of.
I think it’s more of a “you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make ‘em drink,” type of issue.
In other words, if these chicks are the supposed ‘world-class experts’ in their fields – honesty, loyalty, laughter, kindness, generosity, magic, and let’s throw friendship in there for giggles – and they can’t figure it out on their own, there’s nothing a magic map can do to make ‘em see what’s going on.
EXCEPT…it could possibly send the characters in question to a location together, so they work out their problem under the guise of helping others. I dunno, maybe the map is as ditzy as Celestia after all?
That was already noticed.
There was no need to involve the map.
Well that Simple arguement almost ended there friendship which means it does qualify as a friendship problem.

They don´t need the map for that.
