Am i the only one who thinks that episode retcons a lot of the canon namely it implies that Soarin, Spitfire, lightning dust, fleetfoot, and Rainbow dash all new each other as foals

Not just as a flyer. She hides it well but she’s probably second only to Twilight in IQ. Aside from learning the whole of Wonderbolts history in a single short flight without even paying attention, she out-debated Twilight regarding Daring Do in “Daring Don’t.” Before of course pulling a Leroy Jenkins and flying off alone.

That was actually addressed in-episode. Rainbow Dash said that because she was a child prodigy as a flier, she was allowed to compete against fillies and colts that were older than her.
 
As for her quitting flight school, it was probably due to her being unable to pay attention in class. In “Testing 1, 2, 3” we learned that RD has a bit of an ADD problem. She probably got bored and couldn’t handle the coursework, despite her natural talent as a flyer.

This honestly doesn’t make any chronological sense, Spitfire, Soarin’, and Fleetfoot are pretty well implied to be older than Dash is. Plus we know she left flight school, it doesn’t make any sense for her to have left if she was considered so skilled.
 
This is a pretty big mess up imo, I’d say it’s not even considered canon given everything else.

I took martial arts when I was a kid. Went to some tournaments too. And I can tell you, there’s basically a 0% percent chance I’d recognize any of the other kids if I saw them today.
