Comments: As you can see, Magic Star is a far cry from the practical but distinctly unmagical pony she was in the cartoon! This story is based on the nursery rhyme poem:
There was a crooked man, and he walked a crooked mile.
He found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile.
He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse,

It’s odd to see an earth pony run into a goblin and a witch’s cat, and yet have her be the one who not only performs magic, but kinda asks like the fairy godmother of the group, fixing everyone else’s problems.

Goodbye Ponk Pie Hat
I love that the fairy folk we encounter, even ones nominally on Team Goblin, aren’t portrayed as Always Evil races. Theory: whether you’re a goblin or a troll or a pixie in this world is more like a loosely held political allegiance or a favourite TV show, something that cuts across cultural divides.
 
Though about 50% of them still resemble lawn ornaments, regardless of creed or culture.
