Description

Once again, Turquoise Edge was alone. And this time, she was completely alone.

It had been a few days since her father’s funeral, and the house sure was quiet without him. Sure, Hawk had promised to come around more often, and she did have coworkers to talk to in the guard, but she knew most of her time would be spent alone.

The silence didn’t help the empty hole in Turquoise’s heart that seemed to gnaw away a5 her. She missed her parents who were no longer alive, she missed having her siblings around, and most of all, she missed…well, she didn’t want to think about that. She was a single mare now, and whatever happened in the past was done with.

Turquoise finished up her rock soup and made for her bedroom. Might as well put on a movie and call it a night, because there was nothing else to do.

Walking down the hall, she took notice of the closet that was cracked open just across from her parents’ old room. She began to close it when a stack of books caught her eye.

“Open up the closet, there’s photo albums in a pile. She’s in there!”

Those must have been the photo albums her dad was talking about. Come to think of it, Turquoise had never really read them herself, just watched her dad snap pictures and put them in his books. And now that he was gone, it would be interesting to see what memories he considered important enough to save.

There were lots of albums, each with different titles to signify different events. Well, it was like Zephyr to take lots of pictures of one event. One was dedicated entirely to his and Limestone’s wedding, while another was dedicated to Turquoise and her siblings as babies.

But she was surprised at how many were dedicated to her specifically, even moreso than Hawk and Opal. “Ducky’s Wedding”, “Ducky’s Family”, and more, it seemed there was an album for every stage of her life. Not just her life, but Mel’s life with her. Their life together…

Before she knew it, Turquoise was flipping through every photo album with her name on it, immersing herself in the memories. Their first dates. Their wedding. Starting a family. In every picture, they both looked happy as can be just to be together. When had that ended?

That’s when Turquoise came to a horrible realization: all of this was her fault. She was too blinded by hatred and pride to see anything past her conflict with Galaxy, and thus ended up pushing away everypony she cared about. She had taken their love for granted. Everything she had lost was of her own doing.

Turquoise quickly slammed the book shut and stood up with a new determination. She had started this problem, and now she was going to solve it. She was going to make everything right again.

She was going to get Mel back.
