Considering MKatya is a native of Stalliongrad, and has a giant red star as part of her Cutie Mark to boot, I think it's more likely she's a Stalker who stripped a Merc from his armor after it was better than her old gear (whether he to being more bullet resistant, or just getting wring through as much mud and blood as her old gear)
