I’ve theorized that some enzyme in the bat’s saliva weakens the tree’s cells just like it does with the apples.

These bats are a blight on the ecosystem and the episode is garbage.

There are… a few things that bug me about “Bats!”, to be honest, but one of them is how the visuals and the story were working against each other for a good part of the episode. This is a good example of that – those certainly don’t look like trees that are growing “stronger, faster”, and with two very specific exceptions almost all the trees in Applejack’s orchard looked like that. How do you even kill a tree just by eating its fruit, anyhow?
