carbon monoxide is one of the most unfair ways to die… carbon monoxide binds to hemoglobin more strongly than oxygen, so you can die of asphyxiation… after escaping, unharmed, breathing in completely clean air. the best they can do is make you breathe pure oxygen, just hoping there’s enough unbound hemoglobin left in your bloodstream to keep you alive for the next six hours or so.
 
tl;dr get out, then keep still and calm, and focus on breathing, b/c you might be really low on oxygen for a while.
