Notably the director, Stanley Kubrick, usually HATED ad-libbing and only permitted the very best of it in his movies. It got us the Sergeant Hartman scenes and many of Peter Sellers’ best bits in Dr. Strangelove.
That was R.Lee Ermey, who went on to fame in “Mail Call”, and various cameos where he plays off his persona.
In my opinion, don’t bother to watch the second half of the movie. It’s really only famous because of the first.
Doesn’t sound like my kind of thing.
