The fact is that this is the second wrong thing to happen in the first 5 minutes of the episode and it just goes downhill from there. Sludge sure as heck uses pillows for most of the episode and Smolder hasn’t exactly been lighting all the resting areas in the classrooms on fire (intentionally), making her statement of “Dragons don’t use pillows” come off as incredibly wrong.
 
Besides, this scene exists, and she certainly isn’t treating the pillows like alien objects.
 

I’m starting to ship Smolder and Spike.

Smolder more-or-less adopting Spike as her little brother is what redeemed an otherwise meh episode.

It was a she and that scene doesn’t mean “every dragon” uses pillows. It could also mean the dragon is jealous of ponies and their fabric. Maybe they know pillows exist and they are supposed to be comfortable but doesn’t know how flammable they are. Dragons are greedy by nature and want anything that has some semblance of value.
 
I think arguing over a 2 second line in the show is just dumb. I didn’t think much of it at all. Nothing was lost.

Problem is that this scene was handled horribly, much like any scene involving Spike that josh has been involved in writing.
 
A better way to go about it would for Smolder to be embarrassed and/or finding the pillow to be too “cute”. Instead she contradicts that Dragons use pillows when we had a dragon mention outright that if he was lord, he’d wage war on equestria to pillage their pillows.
 
Even Sludge showcased that, yes, dragons do use pillows, they love to use pillows, but they tend to set things on fire.
 
Instead, josh makes a rather apparent boo boo, and we aren’t even 5 minutes into the show.
 
I’d really like it if josh never wrote another scene involving spike ever again.
