It’s true what you say but the song was about how their cutie marks somehow “tell them to do something” so why on earth would the cutie marks, that represent special talents on ponies, be telling them to do the job that the original cutie mark owner has?
Cutie marks are about special talents, not jobs ponies do for living.
Unfortunately, digging for gems isn’t the same as having a radar for them.

Because she doesn’t have a alicorn horn to find gems with.

To be honest, the only cutie marks that are properly explained are Twilight’s, Pinkie’s, and Fluttershy’s. The others are horrifically vague.
doesn’t Rarity’s cutie mark sybolises her ability to find jewels? then why AJ is making dresses?
Then again, I suppose they couldn’t really have Rarity jumping off cliffs trying to fly.
