Can’t say I’m familiar with that.
I like to imagine it as a comical thing. Everyone thinks she’s gay, but isn’t. Kind of like Joey from Friends.

I don’t think she’s a lesbian because of the fact she seems to have shown interest in Soarin.
Actually, I’m pretty sure the “Rainbow is a lesbian” comes from an article by some outlet I can’t remember where the author complains about ‘Rainbow Dash looking like a lesbian’
So fans got together and cheered for that to piss her off and it just stuck because.
“You’re rainbow colored and a majority of your friends are female. Which, apparently, makes you a lesbian in the eyes of people who don’t pay attention to you.”
