Description

Overdue revamp/redraw of my Sparity nextgen, Allusion (NOT Illusion - it is not a typo; Allusion a word defined as ‘an expression designed to call something to mind without mentioning it explicitly; an indirect or passing reference.’) was one of my first next gen kids and so is quite special to me. He was both the first child of Rarity and Spike, who later divorced and went on later to end up with Maud and Thorax respectively.

“I’ve yet to meet a creature I couldn’t make look sharp as a diamond.”

Allusion

Parents: Rarity & Spike
Siblings: Diamond Rough (Half-sister), Spine (Half-brother)
Species: Dracony
Gender: Male
Cutiemark: None
Special talent: Tailoring for ‘odd bodied’ ponies and other sentient creatures
Occupation: Tailor
Nickname(s): Al, Ally, Lu, Lucy

Personality:
Allusion may look prim, proper, and charming… and certainly is all that. However, the dracony stallion’s alluring personality is part upbringing from his well-mannered mother, part show to hide the cracks caused from bullying towards him as a colt. As one might expect, growing up a dragon-unicorn hybrid wasn’t an easy task, and his claws, horns, and even his tail were all sources of this nastiness from others. As an adult Allusion refuses to let any negative words sway him - at least in a way that might be noticable to most antagonists. Close friends and family don’t have nearly as much trouble seeing through the chinks in his figurative armor.

Despite the bullying, Allusion tries not to carry a grudge against those ponies who picked on him when they were younger, nor does he continue the cycle by picking on other oddbodied beings. In fact, Al has dedicated much of his time to making clothes and the like that help these ‘oddbodies’ feel a bit more comfortable, allowing them to dress smartly or smoothly and distract from the features that might upset or unnerve other ponies (Not to say he HIDES features, but makes them more soothing/less startling; For example, custom made shoes that make claws appear less threatening and more glamorous). He’s one of the few ponies that can be commissioned for these kinds of specially made clothes and other items and his mother is proud of both their similar interests and his willingness to help others.

However, this dedication to his clothing can lead to Allusion disappearing for days on end as he strives to perfectly create what a customer has requested of, making and unmaking designs and going through multiple ‘prototypes’ to ensure perfection. These trips down the rabbit hole can sometimes leader to a block of sorts and end up with the dracony wallowing alone over their failure to satisfy what is being asked by a customer.

Relationships:

As far as ponies go, Allusion and Harmony are the best of friends, a little bit because both have history with not being wholly accepted due to their looks, and a lot due to the fact that Allusion cares little how others actually look physically speaking. Both realize they can be themselves and Allusion enjoys Harmony’s unique perspective. He sometimes ask her if he can design some custom pieces for her, both to keep his skill sharp and to perhaps help her blend a bit more, knowing how uncomfortable she finds being teased or ogled for her unusual appearance.

C’est La Vie is another friend of Allusion’s, though more of a business buddy then the kind of friends who hang out and swap stories or spend days relaxing and grabbing an oatburger. C’est is Allusion’s big connection in Canterlot, forgoing his mother Rarity of course, preferring not to get her help unless he truly needs it. The two have bimonthly meetings to discuss various fashion trends and styles, as well as the costs of different materials, like threads and precious stones.

Trivia:

O Allusion originally had a dracony sibling by the named ‘Radiance’ who had more the look of a tradition mythology kirin, but the design was scrapped due to her not really having a personality or place of her own.
O Allusion can breathe fire as one might expect from a dracony and it is a mixture of sparkling greens and reeks strongly of sulfur strangely.
O Allusions forepaws are modeled based on an iguanadon as I wanted them to appear delicate and dextrous, but still have a dragon-like feeling to them. They however also have rough paw pads on them, which is just a headcanon of mine for dragons having padded leathery feet rather than just being flat and hard.
