Description

Ah, the blind bag pony. The brushable pony’s smaller and more gender balanced cousin that gives plenty of show ponies not considered marketable to kids enough for the brushables a chance to shine, including many fan favourites. But even this classic range has made some rather shocking mistakes, to say the least, over the years. From core characters not getting their own moods to not getting released at all until far too late, here are the Top 4 Worst MLP Blind Bag Decisions (I know, I sound like a WatchMojo.com host).

To be fair, Fluttershy as a Rainbow Dash recolor came before they started actually giving ponies unique bodies.

Still REALLY LAZY though.

Also, another REALLY dumb thing they did is give Peachy Sweet and Apple Munchies, who share the EXACT SAME DESIGN, completely different molds, but Red Gala, who looks COMPLEELY DIFFERENT, reused Peachy Sweet’s mold. You kidding me, Hasbro? If you have Red Gala her own mold, you’d actually have a ponytail-free replacement for the Applejack mold.

yeah, I’m kind of… poor. don’t think I ever ate at starbucks, though mostly because I don’t like eating out. I have… a place to sleep, without anywhere to really put stuff, and food, and this computer. not much else.

also you said it: they’re the cheapest toys there are. it’s easier to be into those vinyl collectables than some cheap blind bag ponies. I keep meaning to get some, but eh…

Blind bags are among the cheapest toys there are. “Gotta Catch ‘Em All” will run you a lot, but trying to get a few favorites is cheaper than trip to Starbucks. (And there are cheat codes stamped into each bag so you don’t really have to guess at who’s in it, you can get just the ones you need.)

They already had a Blossomforth way back in Wave 2, and again in a Toys’R’Us (RIP) exclusive set. But she was a Rainbow Dash recolor, and really Maud has a much closer manestyle to Blossomforth’s show appearance. So I’d approve of that change.

BTW, here’s a custom Cloudchaser from long ago:

Maybe I’ll try my paw at a custom Flitter if I can find a spare Fluttershy or Sunshower Raindrops.

Nah, worst mistake ever (because it’s still not corrected ) was that they finally gave Fluttershy a more show-accurate body, but have only ever used it for her and Sunshower Raindrops. They finally made Cloudchaser in 2018 (not a great likeness as a Rainbow Dash recolor, they could I think have done better with a Wonderbolt mold, and they used her alternate cloud/sun cutie mark likely to save money because they already had the silkscreening for it from Cloud Kicker, but hey, at least they finally made Cloudchaser).

But they have an absolutely perfect body for Flitter in the Fluttershy mold, they literally just need to inject some lavender PVC instead of yellow into the molds and paint the mane and tail a blueish green. Cheapest and most show-accurate blind bag outside of custom characters they’d have ever done. (And just recoloring Fluttershy’s butterflies to Flitter’s dragonflies’ color is closer to Flitter’s accurate cutie mark than some of them are so they even have the silkscreening already available.) Making a near-perfect Flitter costs them nothing but washing the equipment.

Or if they wanted to really do it right, make her cutie mark accurate dragonflies and mold a bow accessory for the back of the head and it would be the single most perfect recolor they’ve ever done. (And re-do Cloudchaser with a Wonderbolt mold and her shooting star cutie mark. Then re-release Blossomforth from Wave 2 with them as the Flexible Fliers set.)
