The fact that an historical changeling like Mirage existed in the first place tells us a lot about changeling lore. First and foremost, it would seem that the moth-eaten dark changelings that served Queen Chrysalis are NOT their normal form. Instead, they’re apparently a “corrupted” form, probably resulting from Chrysalis’s dark magic and keeping them half-starved all the time. The “Changedlings” aren’t really “changed” at all; they’ve just reverted back to species-normal.

Wouldn’t that suggest the opposite though? Mirage was a black changeling in her portrait.
