Yeah, I feel pretty confident that Rarity isn’t missing anything. Not to be too hard on Spike, but his crush on her was born from her beauty, not her personality. And for Rarity, this probably happens all the time.
 
She appreciates the things he does for her, but to her he’s just a boy with an adorable little crush.

Rarity isn’t interested in Spike beyond friendship. That’s pretty obvious. And rewarding someone with an opportunity to date you just because they have a crush on you isn’t a very nice way to treat someone because it’s inherently a lie if you don’t feel the same way about them.

Spike won’t ever get a romantic closure.
 
Not with anyone who’d make sense, anyway.

I hate to say it, folks, but as far as we know the ride is almost over. Rarity still has zero romantic interest in Spike after 8 seasons. And it will probably remain that way because he’s still young and we know that she will be old and dead before he’s a grown adult.
 
What would be healthier is if he found someone else. To say nothing of the fact that this fandom can’t ever find it in themselves to agree that a given ship should be canon, we’ve also done an excellent job of proving that we can’t be mature about canon ships. Lest we forget what we did to Flash Sentry purely because he wasn’t Big Macintosh or Shining Armor.
