If we’re talking theories about the origins of Changelings, let me throw my own hat in the ring. I have the belief that the Changelings are essentially the MLP equivalent of the True Ancestors from Tsukihime – that is to say, they are a race of beings spawned by the world specifically for the purpose of keeping the development of ponies and other sapient races in check. Both races are mimetic in nature in regards to their “prey” (though the Changelings take the idea to its logical extreme), and possess vampiric qualities. Like the True Ancestors, they fell into decline, but for a different reason. The True Ancestors had a literal design flaw the was psychological in nature – the unneeded impulse to drink blood. This overtook them and they eventually died out. The Changelings were simply not NEEDED by the World anymore when ponies were proven to be more helpful to the planet than harmful. SO, the planet removed its support, the the Changelings were faced with a particularly sadistic decision: change with the times or die. By Season 6, it’s plain to see which choice was ultimately made.

That would make sense considering her fanatical quest to destroy Celestia most of all. I hope that, if this is the last season, we get to see from where Chrysalis originated. I’d even be happy with a grudging goodness, in that she doesn’t have to go all “love everyone!”, but doesn’t necessarily hate anyone, either.

To be honest. I feel Queen Chrysalis got the same treatment as the mythic Arachnid did, when Athena cursed her into becoming a Spider. Basically, Chrysalis was challenged by somepony popular,(Maybe Celestia herself, when she was a young teen alicor.) beat the popular pony, and was cursed to be a changeling, for besting said pony in something. That’s just a hypothesis though.

I know some fans would be upset, but I’d like to see Chrysalis reformed (mostly). Maybe it’s because I believe in the transformative power of love, or maybe because I love the Chrysi & Flufflepuff cartoons too much to imagine her staying 100% pure Colombian evil.

I’ve always believed that Queen Chrysalis could be reformed, but that might be my own bias with shipping preferences involving her, I do find it odd that one are shipping Cozy Glow…

I would think she could be redeemed. I think most ponies/people can be redeemed. I’d like to see them try, anyway.
