Even if you feel no empathy for your fellow countrymen who might be offended by your use of that word, there is a pragmatic reason not to use it. If when you’re using it, you’re being misunderstood and forced to explain what you meant or otherwise defend your use of it, than it’s not an effective way to communicate. Also, using it to describe a person as ignorant does seem racist to me, as it sends the massage, Intentionally or not, that being black is synonymous with being ignorant.

They also don’t have a history of being denied equal rights and opportunities in America. If they did, I think it’s fair to assume they’d be a bit more sensitive about it.

Exactly! I get called Nazi for being white and I just laugh because it’s an unfounded claim without evidence.
Whites don’t get violent when someone calls them cracker. At least, outside of the hate groups.
It makes me laugh that they think a specific word belongs to them, when it was given to them by slave owners. Do we have any actual slave owners now? No. There’s no justification that someone like me, a white man, cannot use the word. Is it racist? Well, it has racist connotations, but overall it’s a really dumb word. If we can’t use it to describe a person, like I do for an ignorant person, then why should to still be used? If it’s not used in a racist way, then why can’t other races use it? It’s the stupidest thing to get upset if someone says it, and even more so to get violent over it, because then I have to defend myself and injure some idiot who decided to say, “That’s racist to black people! I’m gonna kill you!”
