Background Pony #DD02
I used Chikorita in my HeartGold run, and she basically saved my ass about a thousand times and made the whole game a breeze.

Especially Goldenrod. Being able to completely ignore Miltank’s Charm AND out-tank the tanky fat fucking cow and sit there spamming Razor Leaf at it was so satisfying.

Well, all three are pretty flawed compared to starters like Chimchar and Mudkip, but Chikorita is basically choosing hard mode for the 2nd gen games(for one, it’s not super useful in any of the Johto gyms). For the competitive scene(lower tiers only, since none of the three do well in higher ones), Typhlosion is very good in because it knows Eruption, Charizard can be absolutely devastating if you know what you’re doing, and both do very well in Sunny Day teams. Meganium, meanwhile, is a decent defensive Pokemon in theory, but in practice it’s bad typing and lackluster movepool make it the worst starter overall.

Splinter, Chikarita is actually a decent starter, the worst starts are Charmander and Cyndaquil, Cyndaquil’s problem is really the lack of non-fire attacks
