FYI: Thaipusam is a festival celebrated by Tamil people to honour the war god Murugan (also known as Karthikeyan in northern India, or Skanda or Wei Tuo in Buddhism), a son of Shiva and Parvati and the brother of Ganesh. The name “Thaipusam” is derived from the Tamil words “Thai” (a name of a month, not the Southeast Asian country’s culture) and “pusam” (from the Sanskrit word “puja” which means “worship”), so it means “prayer of the month of Thai”).
