Except they still are the characters they represent. And Equestria is still pretty much the same. I mean, I honestly love how it’s represented here. It’s more down to earth, but still holds a lot of that charm to know that this is Equestria. There’s nothing wrong with creating another reality of you know what your doing, which this artist clearly knows how to do. Besides, this is the Brony fandom. Where we have versions of Equestria destroyed by nuclear fallout, a version of our princess who will fuck anything and anyone under her sun, and all that cool jazz.
Last I checked, fan works don’t have to focus on the same characters that the source material do.
Seriously though, you whine about this on practically every page of this comic. Just filter the damn thing already if a fan comic having the audacity to be different from the source material upsets you so damn much.

At some point along making major changes to the personalities of every character, changing major characters into minor ones and vice versa, and ignoring all of the the circumstances of the setting, the connection to the original work becomes so tenuous as to be meaningless.

That’s the point. The show does affect it on some way, but this is kind of an alternate take on the world and characters. Doesn’t make it any less valid.
A better answer was to ask her why she does not value that a higher magical entity chose her as the main defender of all equestria and that this entity rewarded her by making her a princess, with a huge castle and many friends who are literally her family. Why would she devalue her real position as student number 1 of Equestria’s main regent and devalue her political position as a princess? Why does she think she needs tips in life when she has achieved more things than her own brother?
Shining’s monologue would come off better if it came from someone who didn’t lead a charmed life. Real easy to adopt “go with the flow” as a mantra when connections are already falling into your lap as a kid.

Yeah it seems to be based off the Pacifica. The van can also be seen in this older comic.

Some people are sadly think skulled.
“I don’t know what an AU is so I’m accusing this AU webcomic of not being an MLP comic because it’s different from the show.”
Because this isn’t actually a MLP fancomic. Just about nothing from the show matters.
I guess royalties are really bad role models when they’re driving themselves…
Nope.
