I think he’d put a hoof on his shoulder, then Thorax would throw himself on his brother for a comforting hug. ;_:  
Pharynx would be initially hesitant…but he’d return the hug anyway~ :3
 
The thing about Pharynx is that he does care about his hive and his family. He has a more, if I might borrow your words ‘cautious, hard and regimented’ way of showing it, but he didn’t abandon the hive to the mole-monster despite the way they where treating him. He’s just prefers to show tough love, that’s all. ^^
 
After all, sweet changelings are all well and good, but sweet changelings without the ability to fight in defence of their hives make only for tasty snacks for monsters.

Yus~ :3 They’re such an interesting contrast. One is sentimental, gentle and loving, the other is cautious, hard and regimented. I so wish to see more of them. I’m curious to see how far Pharynx is willing to dip outside his comfort zone for the sake of his brother. ^- If Thorax was beside himself with grief over something, would Pharynx merely touch his shoulder, or would he instigate a hug?
 
Psychology fascinates me, these are the kind of questions I ask myself. XD

Pharynx may tolerate sibling hugs, but he sure doesn’t have to like them! At least on the outside.

I would ship them if they weren’t related. :3  
But then again, if they weren’t then their behaviours would probably change considerably, so…
