Welcome to the Miracleverse! AKA, the Disliked Ships AU, but I don’t use this as a platform for hate. While the universe is slightly… twisted, they are all options that could have happened in the main TFIMverse. They’re a chance to do things with the… standard ships that people have, and using them in new ways, as well as a platform for interesting characters. And let me say, it’s time for the stuff to begin! Sort of! First of the many times we’ll be doing STORIES in this universe, these are pictures in scenarios that either advance the story, or in this case, provide backstory! They might feature only canon characters, or only OCs, this one features Starlight Glimmer and her inner monologue raising a baby Stitchwork Shine.
Baby Jar not to proper size, don’t freak out! I mean, freak out, but not for that reason.
THIS IS THE START OF STITCHWORK’S STORYLINE!
PREVIOUS (NONE) - NEXT

Starlight was… new to motherhood. That was true for sure. But she felt as though she was doing a pretty good job. She had a little trouble with delivery, the fresh scar that would eventually fur over and her daughter’s name reminded her of that, but Stitchwork Shine was the perfect model of a baby.
While she fussed and cried, it was nothing she couldn’t handle, since she had read the books on parenting; that foals preferred being held in hooves instead of magic since it gave them something to fall back on, she had it covered.
Then the screaming started.
Wailing, crying, piercing screams filled the castle as Stitchwork Shine became inconsolable for hours at a time.
Starlight had no idea what to do, and neither did her husband Sunburst, though he could do little to help besides offer Starlight comfort and cradle their little filly near his chest due to his size, he was trying his best.
There wasn’t anything they could do, and when Starlight desperately called a doctor, she could only tell her that colic episodes were common in foals; nothing was to be done.
But that couldn’t be the answer. It just couldn’t. She couldn’t live like this, constantly waking up from the shrieking and wailing of her child. She was at her wits end, not getting sleep, constantly tired and irritated.
She noticed her magic was building up in her anger and frustration, snapping plates when she tried to carry them in her aura.
She had to find a solution, and she soon did.
Releasing her magic in one huge cloud, all of her anger manifested into red, swirling energy, she picked a bottle up and slowly poured all of it in. Her head felt clear, her magic was under control, everything was better.
After all that, she was finally calm.
Then she heard the characteristic crying of Stitchwork Shine, and her peace was shattered again. Slowly pouring out another cloud of anger into the bottle, she quickly tied it around her neck. It was small enough that she could keep shrinking that cloud and putting more into it. She’d need to.
She sighed, resigned to her fate, and slowly made her way to Stitchwork’s crib to check if she was hungry or if her diaper was full. It wasn’t, and she had already been fed recently. It was simply her child crying incessantly for no reason, like all the times she checked before.
She poured a cloud of resentment into the bottle, when suddenly something hit her; she had solved her problem with magic… what if there was a way to solve this problem with magic as well? She was definitely ready to try anything.
Ignoring her baby’s wailing, she trotted back down to the library, absentmindedly kissing Sunburst as he passed; he’d been a peach recently, she should really reward him sometime… she shook her head.. not the time.
She stopped at the spell reference section and pulled out the entire shelf’s worth of books with her magic; no time to waste. She passed each book by her eyes quickly to sort the good from the bad, the bad returning to the shelf.
‘Levitation And You: A Beginner’s Guide’, garbage. ‘Capillurgy: Controlling Your Body Like An Earth Pony’, interesting, but completely useless. ‘Persuasion And Control Through Magic: A History of Abuse’, perfect! She shelved the rest and cracked open the book, ignoring the obvious flaw in the naming. As if control was inherently bad.
She poured through the book for information, finding three spells that would work… if she mixed them. Cogeria was used to make ponies more gullible and open to suggestion, Fiducia Compelus allowed a pony to issue commands that would be followed perfectly, and Persuadere compelled ponies to forget things other than the suggestion. It was a failsafe, almost a redundant one to Cogeria, but better safe than sorry…
She grinned, her horn flaring up with magic as she wove the three spells together, the concentrated power crackled for a second before the spell settled into a soft glow. She was ready to test it.
She passed by Sunburst again, making a definite note to reward him for being such a good husband… and to see if the spell worked more than once, check by testing it on him, before making her way to the still screaming infant that Sunburst had been checking on himself.
“Ok, now to cast it…” She prepared the weaving spell, and it dispersed into a mist in Stitchwork’s crib. The little foal’s pupils contracted and her iris lightened; that was a good sign… but there was something wrong…
“Oh, silly Starlight,” she laughed at herself lightly, “you have to issue a command for Fiducia to work!” She prepared her voice, which took on an unearthly quality. “Stitchwork Shine, hear me and listen!” She said, echoing through the room, and causing Stitchwork to twitch her ears, clearly paying more attention to her mother. Good.
“You will stay quiet for mommy.” She commanded, and the mist of the spell broke, Stitchwork going silent. Starlight sighed… this was a perfect solution. She’d come back in an hour to see if it worked.

When she returned to the room within the hour, she realized she had made a small mistake; she had forgotten that sometimes her child would have reason to cry… Stitchwork was silently sitting in her unattended diaper, having followed the rules perfectly.
Starlight sighed, shaking her head. “Clearly I have to be more specific… Stitchwork Shine, hear me and listen! You will be quiet for mommy unless you need to be fed, need your diaper changed, or are in danger, and you will cry for help if you absolutely need it!” She tried to be as specific as possible and dispersed the mist again, and Stitchwork immediately began crying again.
She sighed and levitated her daughter to the diaper changing station, quickly getting to work cleaning the poor foal up. Sure, she had failed the first time, but it was simple enough to fix; she’d set it up so Stitchwork would stay quiet until she really needed something. It was all good.

Months later, and the spell was adjusted over time, but she was confident with how well it was working; Stitchwork would only cry for important things, and her colic episodes vanished completely; if she heard her child cry, she knew it was important. No more guessing, no more wondering, just a call and response.
Now, Stitchwork was a fussy baby about eating, but it was easy enough to solve that; a little of her special spell and a command, and she was eating the baby food just fine. The serving size was one jar, so she knew it was fine, and it made it simple. No muss, no mess, just the spoon going into the mouth and back to the jar, and back again.
Quick and easy, giving her a burp, and back to the crib and playing blocks, which she had commanded Stitchwork not to put in her mouth, that the only thing that goes in her mouth is what mommy gave her.
Now that she had the hang of it, she had no idea how so many mothers had problems with foals. Once you figured out the obvious solution, it became a simple matter of making sure she had her commands in order and her baby was growing up well.
Starlight was still new to motherhood, but now that she had everything under control, she knew she was doing a good job. After all, there wasn’t any fussing. Just an easy, quiet baby, and an easy, quiet life…
