I’d like to point out that wet wood (and those wolves are alive so we can assume they drink water in some way so the wood they are made out of is at least well hydrated) does NOT burn well.
 
Spike would have to keep a stream of fire on them for at least several seconds before they even catch fire and he’d most likely get torn apart.

The 3D timberwolves are really nicely done. The animation is somewhat noticeable (they seem a little “floaty” and don’t quite have the “pop” of the 2D characters’ motion), but visually they’re integrated very well. Reminds me a little of how they integrated 2D and 3D in The Iron Giant.

And let’s not forget that they’re magic. They don’t look natural, either.
 
Also, the CGI here is cool. You can tell it’s CGI from the animation, but it fits well enough that you may not immediately catch it from the screenshot here.

He was panicking. And I don’t think that’s a good idea. His fire is not strong enough to immediately turn them to ashes, and having flaming wolves chasing after you is even worse.
