Speaking of movies, there were plans for a sequel to the My Little Pony movie because after watching the movie in theaters, on home media, at home-on-demand, and in streaming services, many fans started wondering will there be another My Little Pony movie. Which meant, “Will there be a My Little Pony: The Movie 2?” But unfortunately however, the film’s disappointing box office take led to it being reworked into the television special “My Little Pony: Rainbow Roadtrip”. This is rather strange because the movie made nearly ten times back its budget. And yes, because season nine is the final season of the show, there will not be a sequel to “My Little Pony: The Movie” kind of. But the special does have the same animation style as the movie. However, the animation studios were very different. “Rainbow Roadtrip” was animated by Boulder Media. Who infamously animated the entire Equestria Girls Summertime Shorts series (aside from music videos). DHX Media (the same animation studio that animated the entire series (except for the first season and the season two premiere two-parter “Return of Harmony”) as well as the entire spin-off series of Equestria Girls (except for the Summertime Shorts) and Best Gift Ever) was also responsible for animating the My Little Pony movie. And instead of using Adobe Flash animation software is used in the television series, they animated the film by using Toon Boom Harmony. And because the tv show along with the two specials, eight shorts, six clip shows, and the entire Equestria Girls spin-off series were animated in fully 2D, the animated movie was animated in both 2D and 3D combine with 2D visuals and 3D effects. Similar to other 2D animated movies that were based off and set during 2D animated tv shows including The Simpsons Movie, the first two SpongeBob Squarepants movies, The Rugrats Film Series, The Wild Thornberrys Movie, Clifford’s Really Big Movie, Recess: School’s Out, Teen Titans GO! To The Movies, Jetsons The Movie, Hey Arnold! The Movie, Hey Arnold! The Jungle Movie, The Powerpuff Girls Movie, Kim Possible Movie: So the Drama, and possibly The Transformers: The Movie and G.I Joe: The Movie.

Assuming summer starts at exactly halfway between solstice and equinox, and this special airs before Season 9 does and not the same day, the season will air May 11 at the earliest, if the special airs the first day of summer.
 
Otherwise, I’ll assume they’ll push the season back to season 1-4 airing sync. Assuming, then, the season airs as close to October 10 as possible, and isn’t leaked early, that’s a hiatus of exactly 364(!) days
 
Geez, no wonder we’re getting two specials, if the hiatus is longer than the S4-S5 one……

You mean those shorts with Ed Edd n Eddy-like humor that doesn’t fit with FiM at all? Right…. (I’m a fan of Ed Edd N Eddy myself, but it’s kind of humor just doesn’t fit well with MLP…)

To be fair, at this point I believe that’s exactly what’s going to happen. The CGi Movie is Mike 99% sure it’s gonna be the G5 pilot. We all know it thanks to the leaks at this point. What I did NOT expect is another delay for it. According to the leaks it was supposed to be released in Fall 2020 but now seems to be listed officially for 2021. I think that because of this delay the S9 is gonna be delayed as well, in order to distribute better what remains to air for FiM before the start of the G5 (even because… There’s gonna be a full year of void for the franchise after the end of G4…) that’s why we haven’t got anything. At this point I think this special is gonna air before the S9 too… Let’s just hope for one thing: THAT THE S8-S9 HIATUS IS NOT GONNA BE LONG LIKE THE S4-S5 ONE.
