I think Spike cooks like I tend to do. Special events call for special treats. I’ve made fabulous cakes and breads, and burned to crisps cookies from ready-to-bake tubes. My everyday food is either out of boxes or microwaved.  
Also, Twilight lives on Red Bull, Ramen Noodles, Skittles and Cheetos, just like most students.

Pretty soft for a Sony.
I honestly don’t know what to make of Twilight Sparkles dietary habits… for all I know she could be composed entirely of knowlegde and magic, and eat nothing but books.  
or Twilight could just her own food, and spike does all of the chores.  
But I think this will reaffirms my weaker sense of Spike and Sweetie Belle shipping. Spike and Rarity might be more popular with some regarding it as canon. But the ages of Sweetie Belle and Spike are more in line with each other.

^ At the very least he does enough of it to know what ponies find edible and what they don’t. Like with all of Spike’s incompetence in this episode, its rule of funny nothing more.
