It sounds interesting, but I can see this retconned so quickly.  
In the comics, characters come back as soon as sales drop or someone thinks they have a good idea.

You make it sound like it’s a permanent change. I mean, they killed off their most popular superhero and replaced him with one of his deadliest enemies.
 
Now, the idea of Doc Ock striving to be a better person and being a legitimate hero as the Superior Spider-Man has great potential for stories, but there’s no way that this is a permanent change. So I’m gonna enjoy it while it lasts.

I haven’t read it but unless it was handled With the hamiest of hands I’d say it’d be a creepy twist. Especially creepy if doc oc still has the hots for aunt may.
