And maybe, JUST maybe, Steven Brand as Anderson. I know it was originally Nachi Nozawa, but he died about four years after Hellsing Ultimate started.
I HATE people who say dubs are inferior to the original like it’s a fact. I have a classmate who normally watches dubs, but he didn’t watch Code Geass dubbed. On Cowboy Bebop, there was something about Wendee Lee’s take on Faye that Megumi Hayashibara didn’t mesmerize me with. Megumi is a great voice actress, but she’s not as great as Lee for the character. Same with Vicious. Skip Stellrecht, in my humble opinion is the only voice actor who can surpass Norio Wakamoto. Unless it’s Taka with Cell.
And by less boastful, I mean, you don’t say it like a fact, but rather your opinion. While with anime like Cowboy Bebop and Fullmetal Alchemist, where in order to fully appreciate it, you need to watch the dub. Plus, I never really liked the idea of a Japanese person voicing a black character. I’m not racist, but it really doesn’t work. I know actors like Patrick Seitz do this a lot, but they can sound like one. I’d quote Tien about weebs, but you seem okay with my opinion.
Your loss. You don’t get to witness masterpieces like Ghost Stories or Ping Pong Club. But you’re more honest and less…boastful about it.
Unfortunately my dub standards are simply too high to accommodate this kind of low budget undertaking. Besides, it’s always been my opinion that the original voice acting conveys all of the emotion, while any kind of dub has to suffer a certain degree of loss.
But aside from any Shinichiro Watanabe or Yasuhiro Nightow anime, I could suggest Hellsing or Assassination Classroom. Both have fantastic dubs.
Oh. Go fig. Although there are some good dubs.
Dubbing (or even subbing) a thirty hour long foreign show is quite a formidable task.
Anyway, I don’t watch dubs as a rule of thumb.
But it was still a fun show. Even if it took about four years after it originally ended to get dubbed. Fillers in long runners are not a good thing most of the time. Key word, most. But in stuff like My Hero Academia or Samurai Champloo, it can be a good thing.
Still, I did like the Fillers.
TBQH Monster had its fair share of fillers around ep 20 or so. More than fair, really.
I went through three false starts before I finished it (always managing to forget where I quit last time), but boy was it worth it.
Unlike Kai, it isn’t necessary to redo Monster. Dragonball Z has endless filler and runs very long. Every episode of Monster has little to no filler and ran on only 74 episodes, whereas DBZ ran on over 100.
It was a shame with Evangelion. Say what you want about Escaflowne, but at least there were some good casting choices. Some were even better than the original. It suffered the same problems with Love Hina, as stated below. Strict voice directing, stiff acting, and being a little too literal. The F Bomb line was removed. I personally consider it okay as long as it’s done at most, three times. Accel World and I think A Certain Magical Index did this. Nearly everyone in the cast were very well known anime voice actors, and it’s sad to see them act emotionless or without a lot of emotions. 2019 finally gave light to the Konosuba dub and Shield Hero dub. Both of which were fantastically done. So seeing this is just embarrassing. Carrie Keranen: great voice actress, bad voice director. Hope her directing gets a lot better onwards. Chris Cason or Wendee Lee would’ve been better ADR Directors. But that’s just me.
Love Hina is like Clannad done wrong. The VN for Clannad came out around originally 4-5 years later (the anime came after). And the main female oddly resembles Nagisa. Except Nagisa is a sweet little cinnabon. Virtually none of the characters were likeable. While in Clannad, nearly every character were fleshed out, had interesting stories and every moment could make you either cry or laugh.
Not 4Kids One Piece. More like Love Hina. I love the voice actors in that show, but a good chunk of them did not sound well.
given the fact that they redubbed dragonball z when they did kai I wouldn’t be surprised if they did
Brooooooo!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 That was beautiful!!!! Absolutely priceless, fam🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I feel like I need that on a t-shirt
Edited
If they redub Monster, so help me. Monster deserves recognition. But not in a negative way.
The redub is horrible. Seriously, it makes 4Kids One Piece look like Cowboy Bebop. And it’s a shame, since most of the voice actors are super talented. You get Clifford Chapin, the man behind Katsuki Bakugo and Conny Springer and Carrie Keranen, Lady Satsuki Kiryuin, Mami Tomoe and Casca. Shinji’s redub voice is terrible. Sounds like the actress wasn’t even trying to sound like a boy compared to Megumi Ogata. Women in the dubbing community like Alison Viktorin and Brina Palencia are well known for voicing young boys because they can sound like one. This actress was not trying at all. You don’t need to sound like Ogata. Viktorin didn’t need to replicate Minami Takayama or Uki Satake voicing Conan and QT. She worked with what she had.
The Vic fiasco is terrible, and compared to Funimation, Rooster Teeth’s behaviour has gotten worse. They’re the anime equivalent of Spumco. Except you don’t fire John K. You fire another member of the recurring cast. They’re abusing, pressuring and demanding. If someone was established to have molested someone there, well, good riddance. Not that Funimation isn’t terrible. Their actors have been harassing and bullying people. I forgot her name, but you know the woman behind Tohru, Ruby and Michella? Her brother was revealed to hold Child Porno and was arrested and is refusing to admit what he did is terrible and is actually trying to save him. Even though Scott Freeman was guilty of the same exact crime years ago. Ed Blaylock, Bob Magruder and Cole Brown may have passed, but they passed away as heroes of the anime community. To quote Harvey Dent, “You either die a hero, or live long enough to be the villain”.
well atleast we got to enjoy him in jojo part 4 and that Broly movie, hopefully funimation will get there shit together and hire him back before the Broly arc comes out
Right? I know anything can happen in a day and stuff, but this whole thing is just ridiculous.
Between the Vic Mignogna scandal and the infamous redub of Evangelion on Netflix, anime dubbing isn’t looking so well right now…
shame that its the last role that vic is ever gonna play
I’M ON FIIIIIIIRE! AGH!
@neo4812
There’s parts of the retcon I like and parts that I don’t like.
Seriously, Broly’s character change is one of the only good parts…
