IMO, we dont have enough information to even know what is really going on.  
All Hasbro has said is that the FiM show is done. That makes me really sad, and leaves this heavy feeling behind. On the other hand, they are no longer working with DHX, which is cited as a reason Gen4 is done, yet the new animation studio is working on Equestria Girls, a Gen4 property.  
All Hasbro really said is that they want to continue telling their stories on new mediums. So, it could be G5, it could be a new show for streaming only, it could be a series of G4 shorts, who knows. I’m kinda…conflicted about this. I understand why they aren’t saying what their future plans are, but I’m left with the long wait, which makes me a bit anxious.  
One thing that does give me hope is that the head of storytelling is now Meghan Mcarthy. She’s been on FiM for a looong time, and is really supportive of us. She also agrees with Lauren Faust’s original vision, and wants to build on that. So, I think we wont be getting a Gen 3.5 or a Scooby Doo reboot, thank God.

I feel sad, but at the same time I know I’ll still be able to see the ponies I know and love in the EqG show. However, I still hope Gen 5 does well, and I will still miss Gen 4.
