“Wrong for animation to be cartoony” it’s like saying it’s wrong for a pizza to be cheesy
No it isn’t.
Not one of these faces are from a genuinely dramatic moment. For that matter, MLP doesn’t have a lot of genuinely dramatic moments. It’s mostly melodrama for laughs, which is exactly why the silly faces are used.
Those who agree are wrong, and have never seen a cartoon before.
A) Some may agree that the faces are unappealing.
B) Some may not care about the critcism, and are just drawn to silly ponies like moths to a flame.
Oh lord. Okay. Tell me which of these sample faces were from a dramatic moment. The only one I can think of is when Twilight was describing her fear of Ladybugs, but that’s not even an over the top expression. That’s just her hugging herself with her wings.
True, but none of these come from dramatic moments. Even then, that’s only true for a dramatic moments that were supposed to take 100% seriously, not for over-the-top melodrama that were supposed to laugh at.
There’s a time and place for cartoon characters to make over the top expressions. dramatic moments are not one of them.

I’m pretty sure that was the point.
Pinkie Pie’s face at the bottom right hand corner is so disturbing to me. But the one most disturbing to me is the Rainbow Dash one near the center but closer to the top right hand corner. Why? IT REMINDS ME TOO MUCH OF MOMO!!! AND SHE IS TERRIFYING TO ME!!!
If you’re trying to find a reason to hate the show, perhaps it’s time you voluntarily stepped away. Especially if it’s been years since you actually cared.
The show is entering it’s final season. People with attitudes like yours should either take the opportunity to re-engage or else let the show be. Because in a handful of months it’s going to be all over.

If you lost interest in the show that long ago, then there you go. I think you need to find a new hang up.
You may be right. I lost interest in the show years ago, maybe I’m just trying to find a reason to hate it now.
Although I still think some of these faces are a bit over the top.
