Based on the ruined landscape in the background, my theory is that Equestria was attacked using the magical equivalent of radiation, which caused widespread baldness amongst almost all the ponies.

Look at the bright side at least this way it won’t suffer the same fate as cartoons such as sponge bob or the fairly odd parents, where it eventually becomes a sad shell of it’s former self as it loses the spark it once had due to going on for too long…
