It's bad. In a good way!
Honestly remember she had 2 other kids makes a lot of this feel a bit… Sad. She could raise her two kids, or die and have a 3rd. This doesn’t translate too well when you give it thought.

They are canonically genderless. They only use “she” and “her” because they are speaking English which is something never explained but seems to be something they can all just do. There is no concept of gender for them outside of the language usage. This is canon.
 
Which does make it awkward when they are some of the best strong “female” characters in cartoons.

What’s canon and what’s not canon.  
And that’s all that matters. The fact is, they said it in the show. What happens outside the show can’t have any bearing on it, even if the creator or owner(s) say it because it hasn’t happened in an episode.
