not him, but:
There are plants that produce irritant chemicals more potent than pure capsaicin, like resiniferatoxin, produced by certain African plants. It is about one thousand times more potent than capsaicin–and also highly poisonous, and so probably not something you’d sprinkle on your eggs in the morning. And yes, pure capsaicin resin is about 16 million on the Scoville scale. One of the things this tells us is that some of the super-hot hybrid peppers are about 10% capsaicin by weight, which is an astonishing concentration.
Any parallels between this and certain other plants that humans have bred to produce high concentrations of a desired chemical substance are strictly coincidental and I’m sure I don’t know anything about it.
Nah.. and I read heart palpitations are actually quite easy and can be caused by stress
Even though I felt no stress/pain had barely even really started when it happened, I guess
Idk
Did you die?
Wow, sounds like you got lucky.
yeeeeaaah… so I just had like that same amount of ghost pepper hot sauce, maybe even more than what I put on the sandwich AND some of the scorpion on a small burrito that was less food than the sandwich plus didn’t have cheese
Anyway… apparently just seconds after consumption before I even felt the burn my heart skipped a beat or two… this isn’t the first time this has happened and it only happens with large consumptions of it at once… and the feeling like my heart was about to palpitate only stuck around for like not even 5 minutes… I also started shaking instead of just shivering.. and a few minutes after consumption I got this really tired feeling…
well… not seconds after consumption cause it took a few minutes to eat it… but seconds after the last bite, I guess… the pain hadn’t even really built up yet
Um… I think I may have had too much… I like that shivery feeling but… not so much that I actually start shaking :/ And heart skipping beats can NOT be good.. it’s some reaction to the hot sauce :/
Anyway, last comment lol… I just thought I’d mention that I actually had too much just now :P The burn was also pretty intense considering I didn’t have anything warm (warm stuff multiplies burn feeling for a few seconds and opens up the pores)
Edited
You are definitely a much braver person than I when it comes to hot sauce. I remeber a couple of years back I had tried some Ghost Chille Pepper wings at Buffalo Wild Wings. One of the biggest regrets of my life. My entire mouth was on fire for like 3 hours! I was chuging water, pop (the worst thing to do) I was eating whole ice cubes and nothing worked. My mouth was in agony.
So yeah I try to avoid the super spicey stuff if I can.
maybe habanero… but probably not ghost
habanero probably averages like 200k… while ghost averages like 1mil… and pepper x isn’t really confirmed but it’s around 3mil.. probably averages 2.5mil or so, idk
I was looking at hot sauces around the 3 to 5mil range as I was thinking of combining them with the yummy scorpion hot sauce to give it a little extra heat while keeping the nice flavor but they are really expensive… also with like 5mil and above I think it starts solidifying at room temp lmao.. or so I’ve read, at least
Anyway, I just had this and that still wasn’t enough so I added more near the end (didn’t mean to add that much of the ghost one though lawl… ghost one is the lighter color one)
And that was just barely enough to make me shiver… and it was already taking away from the nice flavor of the sandwich… so yeah, I need hotter stuff.. ghost one is supposedly 650k units… scorpion I’m guessing is around 300k or so but that’s really just a guess
Pepper X’s name MIGHT be from the fact it took Ed Currie (the person who created it) 10 years to figure it out.. that’s really just a complete guess, though
Yeah, like I said before I can’t quite remember the exact amount of units actually is. All I remeber is that Pepper X was like some kind of “super hybrid pepper” that made peppers like the Habenejro and the Ghost Chille look candy in comparison.
But that’s why the sauce is called “just the dab” (it’s actually more like a paste), because anymore than that and you run the risk of an ulcer. Of course this is all from last year so for all I know they probbably bred another that out-burns Pepper X at this point.
Also the reason they called it Pepper X at the time was because they didn’t have a name for it yet in case your wondering.
I think you mean 1 to 2 million range
16 million would be pure capsaicin so I don’t even think 100 to 200 million would be possible lol
Yeah, you gotta watch out for your stomach… I actually purposely try to get it on the inside of my throat cause it’s more sensitive there and will have more impact.. and my stomach can only take so much at once
You can look it up on YouTube, they say exactly how many scoville units it gets, I can’t quite remember, but I think it’s somwhere around 100 to 200 million range.
I can’t do super spicey stuff myself, because my taste-buds and stomach have such low tolerance (I don’t even eat jaleponos, pathetic I know.)
yeah, but I wonder what actual heat is
The pepper itself is around 3mil units or so but there’s hot sauces you can get around 9mil by adding capsaicin
So it depends on what they add to it with how hot “the dab” is
I need hotter stuff… I had almost 2 tbsps (6tsps) of dave’s scorpion pepper and almost 2tsps of dave’s ghost pepper in a 6 hour period and it was just enough to be really satisfying
I’m not sure exactly how accurate I am on those amounts it’s kind of an estimate.. but I’m close, at least
Point is, I need hotter stuff cause to get it hot enough right now it makes the flavor not taste right
I can TOTALLY relate to this image though, lmao
If you have enough you start shivering and… oh man <3
Edited
If there’s any left in the bottle, then not enough.
Go big or go home.
This is the reason I like peppers. I’ve been eating them for long enough that I’m more or less indifferent to the pain (which I’ve never really enjoyed tbh) but so many of them have really nice flavours that compliment a variety of dishes.
Well in terms of handling the heat, the key is to start out with very mild chilis and build up a tolerance so that the increasing levels of capsaicin in more intimidating strains isn’t actually painful, just stimulating.
Some people eat so much hot food that it happens whether they wanted to go in that direction or not, the way some people have to keep drinking more and stronger coffee to get anything from the caffeine. Others are kind of like adrenaline junkies, except for heat.
Jalapenos are considered some of the milder “hot” chilis, habaneros one of the stronger, and then you get into the realm of those crazy peppers like the Carolina Reaper or Bhut Jolokia, which really exist more for bragging rights than culinary enjoyment. For some people, a slice of basic jalapeno-infused pepperjack cheese is quite enough to get the flavor and stimulation of hot chili peppers without the crisped throat.
So they tell me. Invoking pain to dose myself on pain killers seems like a very odd practice.
“Overly spicy” is a subjective matter. Also, the perceived “heat” signals from the capsaicin in chili-based foods cause your brain to release endorphins and dopamine, natural pain killers, in response.
Also they’re varying degrees of tasty besides being hot.

This needs to be drawn. Stat!
Love this idea!
Maybe like those little cinnamon Red Hots candies…?
