Pretty much this. Gilda was definitely a jerk and a bully in the episode, but the fact that she was Dash’s friend during Flight Camp and still wanted to be makes me think she’s not irredeemable.

I really think its just a case of her being too prideful to admit she was wrong and should have lightened up, maybe had a good time with all of Dash’s new friends.
 
So thus her writing a bunch of letters and scrapping each one as the ones that make her sounds sorry she thinks are too wimpy but the ones that make her sound tough don’t convey how much she misses her ONLY friend.

In Gilda’s defense, she doesnt have to like everyone Dash likes. And it doesnt help that Pinkie was being incredibly obnoxious and overbearing the entire episode. or the fact that she spent the entirety of the welcome party being tormented and humiliated. or how about when no one recognized her distress and came to her aid.  
No, they let her get fucking upset. they let her lash out when she was being attacked.  
AND THEN THEY HAD THE FUCKING NERVE TO CALL HER THE BAD GUY  
Fuck the mane six, those assholes.
 
That episode should have been about what a good prank/joke and bad prank/joke is. how everyone should enjoy it, not just one side. and it should have been a lesson learned by everyone, not just gilda or pinkie or whoever

In Rainbow Dash’s defense, she gave Gilda every chance to get along, and Gilda threw it in her face.

Yeah, she should’ve gone off with her friend Gilda and left her lame pony friends behind, with their hangups over bullying and petty theft.

Oh gilda, you can do better than Rainbow dash, someone who so easily abandons her friends despite being THE ELEMENT OF LOYALTY is not worth your time.

I hope Gilda’s return is something like this.
